Because of Recovery, Today I Celebrate Two Years Sober

My name is Mandee and today I celebrate two years in recovery.

I started using drugs at a young age and as time went by I started using harder drugs. Heroin became my drug of choice for 6 years and it became the only thing that mattered. I honestly thought I was going to be an addict for the rest of my life. The way I was using I was sure I would only survive a couple more years if I was lucky.

I tried getting clean MULTIPLE TIMES and always went back to using. I believe god puts certain people in your life for a reason, and he definitely sent me an angel. I met my current boyfriend while I was still struggling and he was in long term recovery. They teach you to help those still in active addiction but to keep your distance. He refused to give up on me.

It was nice to have someone there every step of the way who TRULY cared, saw my potential, has been there themselves, and understood my feelings. Because of his guidance I am the woman I am today. I am so grateful that I entered recovery and stayed. We have been together ever since and have a beautiful 8 month old son who I wouldn’t trade for the world. Just looking at him gives me reassurance that I am succeeding.

I refuse to be another statistic. I am working on my Medical Imagine degree to give my family a better future, and I love every second of it. None of this would be possible without recovery and the angels that were put in my life- and for that I will be forever grateful!
